Fuselage Inspection

I gave the fuselage a good looking over and took a few pictures.  I think that I’m going to have to cut the fabric off of the fuselage, blast and re-prime it all. The metal looks pretty good where I can see it but there are enough places where there is corrosion that I think it’d be smart to clean it up and make it like new.

I also need to make a couple of modifications.  I’m not going to fit in the seat with a parachute so I need to adjust that geometry somehow and there is only one lap belt mount.  I intend to do some pretty serious aerobatics in this airplane so redundant lap belt is a requirement.

I hate to peel the fabric off because it is in really good shape.  It’s got to be done.

New Project

So here are some pictures of the project.  It took most of a day to go through the hangar and retrieve all of the airplane parts.  It seems that it’s mostly complete right down to the brake pads.

The fuselage is complete and covered. The tires even hold air. The engine has seen better days.

The wings were all covered in bed sheets. This is the top wing.

These are the bottom wings. The ailerons have already been installed. Those push/pull tubes look perfect on the inside and terrible on the outside. It shows that the covering did wonders for keeping these wings in good shape over the years.

These are the wheel pants and some of the covers.

There were boxes and boxes of parts.

A beautiful wooden propeller made right down the road in Brookshire. Lovingly wrapped in panty hose.
